Sugar Content

Backstory:

PC has diabetes.  The kind that is easily controlled by diet.  She also refuses to manage her diabetes.

She recently went to the Healthy Heart clinic and got a bunch of instructions on what/how to eat.  We discussed it at length.

Also, she is a marine biologist aka: a scientist.  I choose to believe that she does actually know these things but just wants to get under my skin.

Cookie bad!  You need to get better at eating and especially portion sizes.  Larabars are really good!

larabars have a LOT of sugar.  I sometimes eat little bits of Cliff bars

How much sugar do you think was in that cookie?  And not just sugar from fruit like in a larabar. They have natural sugar, not refined.  The one I have has 18 g per bar. that is totally reasonable

Hi PC,

The oatmeal raisin cookies are approximately 140g and about 32g of that is sugar.

Thank you

Eating half of it=16 g of sugar,...not bad vs Larabar.   Sugar is sugar

You're insane and misinformed. How did you raise children.

You never had sugar until you were over 3...just pure white food and shelled green peas....Remember I was guided by Poppy. She was the healthy eater/feeder.

I can't believe you're a diabetic and you wrote that. You are so crazy, can't you see that.
In short the reason why Fruit sugar is better for you than table sugar
is that by eating table sugar (Sucrose) our bodies go out of sync with
our sugar levels as the sugar is processed in the body extremely fast
and in doing this the body informs the pancreas to pump out insulin.
Someone with a weak pancreas will have a hard time doing this.

Fructose (Fruit sugar) is broken down more slowly which allows the
body more time to react to the sweetener that has been consumed. This
puts less stress on the body and also the pancreas which is good news
for diabetics as they too can have sweet tasting things but without
the worry of a sudden sugar spike.

Thanks, It is not easy to understand all the rules...next time I go to the diabetic clinic, you should come....that way I will be able to understand better.  They are NOT great at explaining things.  too many diabetics out there.  I understand about the glycemic index...therefore eat oatmeal instead of packaged cereals eg cheerios....but think that milk is bad , is it?

being diabetic also makes you confused, and i often get that way, so I will try to be better about my diet....no more cookies, no more refined sugars, more natural sugars. eg in fruit, but not fruit leather (larabars) too much sugar.
